The Solar System effects (tides, seasons, Sun’s position Moon phases etc) that come and go with regularity, ALL without Mankind’s intervention.

Even for non human forms of life the beginning or ending of a Day has an effect.

It follows that when “mankind” had time on their hands OR wished to impress a peoples, or somebody about that “thing called the Moon, or about that Big Blazingly Hot thing we call the Sun, and  about those little twinkling lights far far away”; some individuals studied the “cosmos” either to USE, or to IMPRESS or to GENUINLY UNDERSTAND. They were, and are still now a little unique in their knowledge.
